No início de Janeiro a ilha de Lanzarote, onde Saramago viveu, fechou ao restante arquipélago o que abriu tempo para fazer manutenções no Winderlust: reparar a valuma da genoa e mudar o óleo do motor auxiliar. Early January, Lanzarote island shut its entrace to the remainder archipelago which opened a time frame for me to do several maintenance tasks on the sail yacht: repair the foresail's leech and change the auxiliary engine's oil. No início de Dezembro saí de Gibraltar com uma tripulação de 3 franceses rumo às Canárias. No dia da partida sabia que a partir do 2.º dia ia encontrar uma tempestade com ondas de 6 metros e rajadas de vento na ordem dos 40 a 45 nós, mas Gibraltar estava a fechar as fronteiras e a entrar em lock-down e por isso era urgente sair, ainda que correndo este risco. 4 dias depois o Winderlust chegou a Lanzarote. Early December I left Gibraltar behind with a crew composed of 3 French people, heading to the Canary Islands. On the departure day I knew on the 2nd day a storm, with 6 meter waves and up to 40-45 wind gusts, would cross the way, but Gibraltar was locking down and closing its borders, hence the urgency to leave, despite the risk. 4 days later Winderlust arrived in Lanzarote.
